London Metropolitan Brass is a charity with the objective of providing musical tuition and spreading appreciation of music in the local community. We are governed by a constitution and operated by a committee of seven plus many other volunteers from our membership. Each of our three bands is led by a Musical Director appointed by the committee.
Committee
The Committee is the band’s accountable body. It is responsible for the overall conduct of the band, for setting the strategic direction of the band, and monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the band’s aims.
Chair
Leads meetings of the Committee. The Chair acts as figurehead for the group, who represents the band on an official basis.
Incumbent: Lou Flandrin
Lou joined LMB as part of the inaugural Learners Band in 2017. A complete beginner, she fell in love with the trombone and the brass banding experience. She later joined the Community Band, became Committee member in 2019, and was elected Chair in 2022. Her favourite piece to play is Prismatic Light.
Secretary
Makes sure the charity follows the law, and deals with all internal and external correspondence and documentation for the band.
Incumbent: Milly Dyer
Milly started playing the tenor horn when she was in school, joining the same Brass Band as her mum and grandad. After continuing to play during University she had a 5 year gap before moving to North London and joining LMB Senior Band.
Treasurer
Looks after the band’s finances and helps the Committee carry out their financial responsibilities.
Incumbent: Mike Hurford
Mike played trumpet in his youth but life intervened for 30 years until he discovered the complete joy of brass banding. He was a founding member of LMB, a committee member ever since and plays Repiano Cornet in the Senior Band. His favourite piece in the pad this year is Caravan but Pastime with Good Company runs a close second.
Bookings Manager
Liaises with concert venues and oversees arrangements to ensure that concerts run smoothly.
Incumbent: Caroline Williams
Caroline joined LMB after an 8 year hiatus from playing brass, and is currently a solo cornet in the Senior Band, earning her the nickname ‘Cornetoline’. Caroline’s favourite time of year is Christmas when the band perform a number of carol gigs across London, sometimes featuring the lesser-spotted ‘Tubaline’ or ‘Conductorline’.
Beginners Band Representative

Incumbent: Kate Marrs-Gant
Kate joined the Learners’ Course in January 2020, having never played a brass instrument before. She plays the euphonium in the Monday Beginners’ Band and loves it!
Community Band Representative
Passes information and comments from the membership up to the committee accordingly.
Incumbent: Chris Lane
Chris has been playing the Tenor Horn since 2017, when he started learning brass for the first time with the LMB training band. After playing with the Beginner Band for over a year and falling in love with brass banding, he joined the Community Band in 2018.
Senior Band Representative

Incumbent: Paul Clarke
Paul joined LMB as a member of the first Learners Band in 2017 as a complete beginner and chose the Tenor Horn. After a lot of coaching and coaxing in Beginners Band, he joined the Senior Band in 2019 as 2nd Horn. Paul’s favourite piece this year is Seaside Rendezvous.
