Senior Band – Denis Desmond
Denis started his musical career at the age of 12 on trumpet in his local Brass and Reed Band in Youghal, Co Cork, Ireland. On relocating to London in 1977 he discovered brass bands and has remained in brass banding throughout with additional interest in ensemble playing and some orchestral groups.
Bands that Denis played in were the RBL British Legion Hornsey Branch, Waltham Forest Co op, Fulwell, Beacontree, Epping Forest, Fairlop and London Metropolitan Brass whilst guesting for numerous other groups when invited to do so.
Denis started his conducting whilst in the RBL Hornsey Branch Band under the baton of Dave Laubach, a Salvationist and well known and respected conductor of his time. Continuing to conduct Denis progressed to become MD of Epping Forest Band, Pavillion Brass Band, Enfield Brass Band and has guest conducted many other bands and ensembles in the south east. These include both contesting and non contesting bands.
He has played in and conducted concerts in Germany and Ireland on a number of occasions and is very much looking forward to working with LMB.
Community Band – Deirdre Waller-Box
Deirdre started her musical journey in Dunedin, New Zealand where she studied
trombone and conducting at the University of Otago. As a trombonist in NZ, Deirdre
had the opportunity to travel extensively playing in many different ensembles from
jazz and brass bands to orchestras and everything in between.
Since moving to the UK to further her travel adventures, Deirdre has led music
departments in a number of primary schools as well as developing and leading
successful whole class brass projects in Camden. Alongside her work as a Youth
Development Brass Specialist for Brass Bands England, Deirdre conducts a number of
youth bands for the Camden Music Service and is also the MD of Amersham Band’s
Brass Blast and Brass Roots training bands.
Deirdre is looking forward to working with the LMB Community Band and being part
of the wider LMB community.
